Tumblr Pictures in Text Posts

There are two methods of inserting pictures, photos and images in your Tumblr text posts.  You will learn how to center these pics and adjust their size exactly the way you want, displaying them correctly in your dashboard as well. This tutorial explains the difference between pics hosted on Tumblr and somewhere else, and also the right way of sizing the image if it’s really huge and you want to link to it.

Uploading Photos to Tumblr Text Posts.

  • If your theme has the proper tags, you should go to Customize >>> Advanced and enable the option Enable high-res photos.
  • First, the image size that you see in your tumblr text post can never exceed the post width, otherwise it would break the theme.
  • When you upload an image to Tumblr in a text post, it gets resized to fit the post width, so if you still want the original size to be seen, then host it somewhere else, for example Image Hack.  If you want the original size picture hosted in tumblr, do it through a photo post.
  • So, upload both to Tumblr and another Hosting Site, one to display the image in your tumblr text post the other one to be seen in its original size.

The solution I’m trying to find is for when I upload an animated gif, it will appear properly on my tumblog, but on the dashboard it is seen as a clickable grey square, once clicked you can see the gif in full size, however I have seen many posts on my dashboard that are large in both width and height but are fully shown without a grey box, however you may click on the small animated gif and see it even larger.

I realise my problem may be hard to understand, I could explain better with pictures however I am no allowed to use the tags

I have a question : when the pictures in the text posts are smaller than the post width, how can I change it ? I mean, how can I have the picture as the same width as the text ? Thank you.

i think the text is not explicit here, i don’t understand if i have to use tags or put on a host too see the image correctly in the dashboard.

    Hi there,

I was wondering if you’ve found a way to make images in text posts go full-width, the same way they do in photo posts. I’ve been searching for an hour, but I can’t find any solution.

    Thanks for any feedback!
