How To Find People on Tumblr

Ever wondered if any of your real-life friends actually had a Tumblr account and never told you, here’s how you can find them

the “Tumblr Search People” feature locates any of your Yahoo or Gmail contacts by their email address, not their First or Last Names.

It’s also important to remark that the email that needs to be scanned in order to pull up any possible matches doesn’t necessarily have to be your main log-in Tumblr email.

If you happen to search and find a ton of your friends with Tumblr accounts, this will definitely help you become Tumblr Famous.

How To Find People on Tumblr

  1. Before you start, log-out from your Gmail or Yahoo account if you are using the same browser where you are signed-in to Tumblr
  2. Go To Your Dashboard >> Following Button >> Click on “People You Know” Middle Tab
  3. Or, You Can simply visit the following url http://www.tumblr.com/lookup

  7. You should let Tumblr access your main email address, where you know you have emails listed from people you know and want to find on tumblr. Tumblr will only succeed if any of your contacts are using the email address that shows up in your Yahoo or Gmail contact tabs as their Tumblr log-in email, otherwise they won’t appear.
  8. It’s worth noticing that this feature is not an actual app, but just a “contact scanner” that enters your email just once and then leaves, you don’t have to disable or enable this tool
  9. It’s important to note that you can let Tumblr access ANY email address of yours, not just the one you use for log-in purposes, it can be a different one.

Talking about searches, here is how you add a search box to your own tumblr blog.

What about meeting NEW people and contacting them? Doesn’t seem to be a lot of options on Tumblr and in general.

    Hi there,

Nice article thanks. I couldn’t find any links, buttons, options to do anything on Tumblr itself, are the options hidden away anywhere in particular?
I see only 5 icons across the top of my Tumbler page: Home, Email, Question mark, Options and Turn Off button. Under the Options gearwheel are a few sections but nothing obvious . . .

Anyway the real reason I’m writing this comment is that I’m following the instruction to load my email contacts in case any of my contacts are on Tumblr. I’ve given GMail permission and the wheel is now spinning on the Tumblr connection page, seeking them out I presume. However I did this a few times yesterday and it took forever and got nowhere. Final time it crashed my PC with a blue screen. Today it’s been spinning for, oh, 10 minutes and nothing’s happening.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
