How to Change Tumblr Post Background Color

Every single Tumblr theme has a different inner html structure, so there’s no single way to change your post background colors.  However, if you leave your theme in the comments, we will be able to help you out with this.  You must take into account the follwoing guidelines when changing your Tumblr posts html background colors;

Change Tumblr Post Background Color.

  • You must find out what div tags are wrapping your posts, doesnt matter what type they are.  The ID is the key to changing the color
  • Many times, the posts have corners, footers and headers that are shaped with images, so changing the color might not be enough though
  • Most tumblr themes have a separate .css file where it labels all these parameters, also defining the posts background color

Just leave your comment if you want us to help you with your theme.

    here is my dilemma: i KNOW a lot about html and css, but the whole tumblr custom themes have me completely lost (i had my own domain for 3+ years). what i’d like to change about my current theme is to have some sort of background image… fixed, repeating, it doesn’t matter, but i want the actual tumblr posts to have the sort of opacity that it has with just a solid color as the background. i know how to make this effect in regular html with tables and whatnot but like i said, these tumblr themes have me scratching my head. i have scoured the code for this particular theme, and i just cannot make sense of it. any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    I am using the Astronaut theme. I changed my background but the ‘about me’ section is white and it is extremely noticeable. Is there any way to make this a different color, or make it a tad transparent?

    I’m using the photostack theme on tumblr, and when you click on the post, there is no background. My background image is very busy so it is hard to read the post. How can I add a background to this?

    So I’m under Appearance in Customize theme and there’s a spot for background color. I clicked on that and a color palette came up so I chose a color I liked, clicked on it, and nothing happened. It just stays the same color as it first came.. Help!

    My background makes it so you can’t read any text by itself or under a picture. I don’t want to change my font to something flamboyant, but if I don’t, I can’t read it. Can you help me out?

    Hiya! So, I just started using tumblr and I’m having some trouble. I can’t seem to find anywhere that shows you how to change the background on posts… right now its just a white block, blocking view of the background… any suggestions?

    Also, how can you make a background fixed and not repeat? Much thanks.

    Hi, I need help. I’d like my posts to have a rounded rectangle shape, with a white bg with low opacity. (About 40%). If possible can you explain to me how to change the top black bar I have on my page to make it fixed so my posts don’t cover it when I scroll?

    It’s Effector Theme by Pixel Union. I’d be really grateful, if you could help me. =) The coding for that theme is just a bit too immense for me as a starter.

    I love my background picture, and I currently have a transparent post background. I don’t want an opaque post background, because the focal point in the picture will be covered, but the text is hard to read no matter what color it is. Is there any way to create a translucent, cloudy post background, maybe with gray, so the picture is still visible but just muted behind the post? I heard someone mention they had this once, but not how to do it. My Theme is Field Notes by Manasto Jones.
